Kwame Poku’s goal not enough as Birmingham wins Championship promotion

Date:

Kwame Poku’s goal for Peterborough was not enough to prevent Birmingham City from winning promotion to the English Football League Championship from League One.

Birmingham were just three points away from booking a deserving promotion to the first division of English football.

Having nothing to lose, Peterborough pegged back Birmingham through Ghanaian footballer Kwame Poku in the 22nd minute after Alfie May had struck the visitors in front three minutes earlier.

This was the Ghanaian’s 12th goal of the season for the League One side. Taylor Gardner-Hickman restored Blues’ lead eight minutes before the interval, which turned out to be the winner.

Second-placed and Hollywood-owned Wrexham need to take 13 more points to secure an automatic promotion spot.
