WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup: Ghana, Nigeria bag huge opening wins

Date:

The head coach of the Black Maidens, Joe Nana Adarkwa, enjoyed a superb opening victory in the first game of the WAFU B U-17 Girls camp at Prampram, Ghana.

Star player of the day, Christiana Ashiaku, netted a memorable first-half hat-trick against Benin on Thursday, December 12.

Sissamba Ladies forward Priscilla Mensah opened the scoring with a beautiful lob over the Beninoise goalkeeper in the 5th minute.

Ashiaku scored first of her three goals through the penalty spot in the 18th minute before replicating Priscilla’s opener in the 45th minute.

The Rootz Sistas striker completed her hat-trick with a simple tapping on the cusp of halftime, with Benin scoring their consolation twelve minutes into the second half.

In the second match of the day, Nigeria thrashed Niger 9-0 in Group B’s opener at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence.

Shakirat Moshood scored four times, as Janet Akekoromowei found the back of the net four times against Niger under the bright floodlights in Prampram.

Peace Effiong and Aisha Animashaun scored one each to seal a commanding win for Nigeria’s Flamingos.

The action continues on Saturday, December 14, as Benin takes on Ghana once again before Niger faces Ivory Coast.
