Black Stars: Allow Otto Addo to continue – Laryea Kingston pleads

Date:

Former Ghana under-20 head coach Laryea Kingston believes his former teammate and current head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo, must carry on his role till the end of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

A lot of concerns have been raised over the performance of the former Borussia Dortmund Talent and Assistant coach, Otto Addo, following Ghana’s abysmal showing during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, in which they finished bottom in their group.

Kingston, who has now picked up a role in the United States of America, urged Ghanaians calling for the German-trained gaffer’s resignation to exercise patience and allow him to finish the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“I think we should allow him to at least finish the World Cup qualifiers. Who knows? Maybe he can qualify. And then after that, we make a decision as a country. So we should give him another opportunity,” Kingston opined in a conversation with Flashscore.

Kingston shared the sentiments of a section of Ghanaian football lovers, but considering the Black Stars failing to record even a single victory out of the six matches against countries that cannot even match their pedigree to theirs alone has caused a major disappointment to millions of Ghanaians.

The Black Stars are joint-top in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Comoros on nine points.
