Attorney-General gets involved in O’Reilly SHS murder case

Date:

The Attorney-General has received the docket from the police prosecutors in charge of the murder case involving the student from O’Reilly Senior High School.

Edward Borketey Sackey, a general arts student of the school, was allegedly murdered by the accused after a disagreement after an examination on campus.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei, informed the La District Court, presided over by Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi, of this development when the case was called yesterday.

With this latest development, the Attorney-General is expected to write and file at the District Court an allegation of the crime, called a bill of indictment, which serves as the charge sheet of the case.

This will enable the District Court to now commence the committal proceedings where the magistrate will determine whether there is sufficient reason for the accused person to stand trial at the High Court on the charge recommended by the Attorney-General.

In the meantime, the accused, Godwin Mawuli, has been remanded for two weeks to re-appear on October 21, this year.

The presiding judge advised the accused to request legal representation before the next adjourned date.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased has announced that his son would be buried on October 18, this year.
