Juan Izquierdo has passed on almost a week after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Uruguay side Nacional during a Copa Libertadores match.
Izquierdo, 27, was put on a ventilator while undergoing treatment in the hospital after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, but sadly lost the battle to live.
Tributes poured in after his club released an official statement announcing his death on X.
“It is with the deepest sorrow and shock in our hearts that the Club Nacional announces the death of our beloved player Juan Izquierdo.
“We express our most sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. All of Nacional is in mourning for his irreparable loss.”
