NPP: It Is Evil And Mischievous To Say Lifting Of Lockdown Was Political

Date:

John Boadu, the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that persons making claims that the lifting of lockdown was politically motivated are evil.

The NPP General Secretary, speaking on an Accra–based radio station, said that the decision cannot be politically motivated because only mischievous persons would make such claims.

He explained that President Akufo-Addo would have lifted the ban on forms of social gatherings including political rallies, parties, funerals amongst others.

John Boadu described such individuals as evil, wicked and politically unwise.

He accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of scheming plots against President Akufo-Addo to distract his attention from dealing with the outbreak of the coronavirus.

John Boadu alleged that the NDC has issued a fake memo which contained information announcing the NPP would go to the polls for their presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Lifting the lockdown he hinted was a combination of factors based on data and science available.

He said the economy would have collapsed if the lockdown has not been lifted.

According to the NDC, the decision to lift the partial lockdown in Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi, as well as Kasoa and Tema, is a calculated attempt and politically motivated.

The party believes it’s an attempt by the government to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new register of voters for the 2020 general elections and nothing more.

Sammy Gyamfi, The Communications Director of the NDC wondered: “Why will President Akufo-Addo impose a partial lockdown with the objective of halting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, at a time we had only recorded 137 cases across just four (4) regions of the country and with 5 deaths, but turn around to lift the partial lockdown, at a time our positive case count has galloped to 1,042, across ten (10) regions and with nine (9) deaths?”

However, John Boadu, reacting to these comments slammed the NDC stressing the NDC as a party is evil and wicked to make such suggestions.

“If the president had lifted the lockdown based on political reasons, he would have gone further to lift the ban on funerals, political rallies, festivals and others. But so far as the ban is still in force, it is not motivated by political reason. Unless you lack understanding or you are like the NDC that is only praying for the coronavirus to spread. They only want to divert attention and create mischief. This is diabolic, this is wicked mind and these are people who do not want the country to progress,” he added.
