Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, despite being concerned about the number of goals his side conceded in the two international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda, is happy to see the negatives that need to be corrected.
Ghana let in four goals while getting only three for themselves in Marrakech with the experiment of Alidu Seidu, Edmund Addo, Jerome Opoku, and Patrick Kpozo against Nigeria, while Denis Odoi and Ebenezer Annan started with the retained center-back pairing of Opoku and Addo against Uganda.
The coach cited a lack of communication as one of Ghana’s problems in the two matches.
“We conceded too many goals, that is right, and I think the defensive line as they played today’s game and the other games haven’t played together, and you could see the communication amongst the players was not as good as we wanted to have.”
Otto Addo reckoned the Black Stars needed to improve in defense while making the right defensive choices.
“We have to improve in our defensive positioning, closing gaps, recognizing situations, and taking the right decisions defensively. Like I said, counter-pressing, closing gaps, defending in the last third, and passing lanes were not that good, but we have to work on it and do better next time.”
Ghana will have to improve ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June 2024.
