MAX ENTERTAINMENT: I never said Ghana should ban foreign music – Black Sherif

Date:

Black Sherif has expressed displeasure about some individuals who have spun his speech during the launch of the “Play Ghana” initiative.

The initiative aims at promoting Ghanaian music throughout the country in preparation for the festive season known as “Detty December,” when many diasporans visit the country for their holidays, to add aura to entertainment in Ghana.

The initiative, among other things, also aims at advertising Ghanaian music and attracting investors into the creative art sector for Ghanaian musicians to compete effectively with other foreign artistes.

Black Sherif, during the event, expressed the need for Ghana to promote their music without blaming anyone.

“You know, this is not a blame game. We are not blaming DJs. We are not blaming artists. We are not blaming consumers. It’s a step in the right direction for us all, our music, and our culture. So play Ghana. Blessings,” he said.

However, some individuals claimed he advocated for Nigerian and other foreign music to be banned from Ghana, which did not go down well with him.

Quickly responding to the misconceptions of his statement, Black Sherif tweeted to deny the claims and stated emphatically that he never said he supported the outright banning of international and Nigerian music.

“I don’t know where in my speech that says ban foreign music. How crazy can you spin a message that says love your culture and try play local music to your visitors if you wanna see your country creatives break boundaries. How do I want foreign music ban in my country while I work with foreign producers and Artistes? But agenda set ah lie? Good luck to everybody,” he said.
