Habib Mohammed: Danlad Ibrahim can take the number 1 spot in Qatar

Date:

Habib Mohammed, a former Black Stars defender, said he won’t be surprised if Danlad Ibrahim starts for the Black Stars in goal at the World Cup in Qatar.

Injuries to Jojo Wollacot and Richard Ofori led to the Asante Kotoko goalkeeper’s late call-up to the Black Stars.

One of the two domestic players included in Otto Addo’s final 26-man roster for the international competition in the Asian nation is Danlad Ibrahim.

The former King Faisal star claimed in an interview that Danlad can demonstrate why he deserves to start for Ghana at the World Cup.

“Goalkeepers command the entire team during matches. We have a captain but the goalkeepers see what transpires on the field of play. We all know Jojo Wollacot and Richard Ofori are out because of injuries but I am not surprised Danlad Ibrahim was included”

“We know Lawrence Ati Zigi is there as the number one at the moment but believe me, Danlad can become our number one at the World Cup which will surprise many Ghanaians. I have watched him and I feel he can prove if things go on well for him at training, Danlad can become the first choice for Ghana at the World Cup”

At Stadium 974 in Doha, Ghana’s campaign will get underway against Portugal on November 24.

The Black Stars are back in action four days later when they play South Korea at Al Rayyan’s Education City Stadium.

At Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Ghana will conclude their exciting group stage journey with their much awaited matchup with Uruguay.

The Black Stars will be seeking to improve on their performance in Qatar after exiting the group stage during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Black Stars did not participate in the most recent tournament, which was held in Russia in 2018.

Only three African teams have ever advanced to the quarterfinals: Ghana (2010), Senegal (2002), and Cameroon (1990).

Ghana hopes to advance from the group stage of this year’s competition.
