Journalists in Comoros have harshly criticized the nation’s police for shooting and wounding a fan on Tuesday night during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Ghana.
Six other supporters have reportedly suffered injuries as a result of the police’s actions, according to the social media account Comoros Football 269.
The historic match, which saw the nation from Southeast Africa win 1-0, was seen by almost 10,000 fans at the Stade Omnisports.
Although the incident’s specifics are yet unknown, indications indicate the supporter’s condition is critical.
After a Hertha Berlin midfielder claimed a loose ball that an Almeria midfielder had let out, he glided past the Ghana defense and hammered home a tremendous half-volley to help Comoros upset Ghana 1-0.
