2025 AFCON: Zimbabwe Captain Nakamba Calls for Support

Date:

Zimbabwe captain Marvelous Nakamba preached a message of support as the side jetted off to Morocco for the AFCON this month.

It’s been a turbulent last few weeks for The Warriors having initially sealed qualification for the continental competition but failed in their attempt to secure a spot for the FIFA World Cup in the Americas next year.

Coach Michael Nees was sacked and replaced by Mario Marinica early last month but Nakamba believes they will be ready in North Africa.

Nakamba admits their Group B opener against Egypt will set the tone for the rest of a competition where they are underdogs.

“Yeah, of course I think football is about competition, I think each and every group is tough. Of course we are playing against Egypt, first match, Angola and SA but I think we just have to focus on ourselves. We have a great game plan, we have to push each other and fight for the country,” he added.

Despite the turbulent build up with coaching changes, Nakamba is adamant they are all positive in camp as a group of players.

“So far so good, I think we are pushing each other in camp. The morale has been high, everyone is focused and hopefully we go there for a positive cause.”
