We may witness a new formidable partnership at the centre-back positions of the Black Stars of Ghana when they take on the Palancas Negras of Angola on Thursday evening.
Head coach of the Ghanaian side, Otto Addo, is expected to pair newcomer Jonas Adjei Adjetey with Mohammed Salisu at the heart of defense in place of injured Fenerbache star, Alexander Djiku.
From his humble beginnings at the Teshie Football Academy, the 20-year-old earned a big move to Swiss giants, FC Basel in 2022 after featuring for Ghana Premier League sides Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea.
Addo, as usual, not wanting to show off his cards, told officials at the pre-match conference he wasn’t sure the youngster would be starting on his debut for the senior national side of Ghana, but acknowledged his consistent superb performances since breaking into the first team at Basel.
“Like I said he is extremely good in winning duels. He’s fast, he has good height and very, very good one against ones defensively and he had really, really good games at Basel and at the end we decided for him,” he said to press officials.
A future project of Ghana, as Addo described him, signed a contract extension at the Swiss club until the summer of 2028.
