Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, years after that infamous World Cup penalty miss, has accused certain individuals whose names he did not disclose of being cowards.
It has been ten years since Ghanaians, Africans, and all other fans of the Black Stars saw Gyan step forward at a defining moment for a late penalty against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup quarter-final at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Gyan struck the crossbar on the 120th minute from the penalty spot after Luis Suarez prevented Dominic Adiyiah’s last-gasp goal-bound header.
“They could’ve also played. They were scared because they feared the pressure. They are cowards. Because I missed the penalty, some of them whispered to people that I was not the first penalty taker. Why didn’t they come out to refute the rumors? But you are happy I was being attacked,” he said in a social media livestream.

His rants about his 2010 Black Stars teammates come as a shock to many. The pain in Gyan’s speech online could clearly be felt, as he also revealed some of his teammates back then were incited against him.
