The United States of America Men’s Soccer Team beat Peru by 4-1 scoreline in Florida on Saturday evening. In the very first game after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mauricio Pochetino’s side bounced back to winning ways in a grand style.

The young looking American side broke the deadlock on the 4th minute through Justin Ellis only to be pegged back by an equaliser on the 15th minute through Gianluca Lapadula for Peru. The first half ended in a one all stalemate.

Back from the recess the Americans stepped up the pressure and took the lead through Malik Tillman who converted from the penalty spot on the 66th minute . Jullian Hall added a third goal to further cushion the lead for the Americans.

It was all America from this point onwards as they had the game under complete control. Pochetino’s decision to switch from a 4-2-3-1 formation to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation paid off to premium effect in the second half. Substitute Sebastian Berhalter scored a brilliant fourth goal on the stroke of fulltime to give the Americans a memorable victory at the Inter&Co stadium in Orlando Florida.

At his post match press conference, manager Mauricio Pochetino emphasized the importance of giving the young players an opportunity in the national team to kickstart a new four year rebuilding cycle.

He further heaped praise on the impact made by sixteen year old Cavan Sullivan who made his national team debut in the win. He also spoke about Justin Ellis and Jullian Hall during his press conference as both players scored on their national team debuts as well on the day.

Pochetino reiterated that, the young players got to understand the demands and the expectations that comes with playing for the national team and be ready for the tasks ahead. He was happy to see the combination of youth and experience players blending out perfectly on the pitch.
