On Sunday, August 9, the Burkina Faso U20s defeated Nigeria 4-1 in the final of the 2026 WAFU B Championship to secure their spot at the U-20 AFCON.

Burkina Faso joins Ghana, the host nation for the 2027 edition of the U-20 AFCON, as a West African representative.

Ghana, who qualified automatically as hosts, were knocked out in the group stage, finishing third in Group B behind Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Togo, and Burkina Faso contested at the WAFU B Championship.

Ghana ended the competition with a lowly third-place finish, causing fans to question the competency of coach Maxwell Konadu.

The Black Satellites will be hoping for a better performance in next year’s AFCON to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup.
