A continental football fiesta will be experienced for the first time in Tarkwa as Medeama SC battles the rest of Africa.
Returning to the CAF Champions League was the main aim of club patron, Moses Armah Parker, at the start of the 2025/26 season.
The Yellow and Mauves are set to engage in the qualifying stages for the group phase of the 2026/27 Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
For the first time in Ghanaian football, a stadium aside from the traditional and iconic Accra and Kumasi stadia will host a continental inter-club competition.
The Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, also known as the TnA, was approved by CAF for Medeama’s preliminary Champions League matches.
Club communication director, William Graham, on Max TV’s Sports Daily show, disclosed that the numerous inspections undertaken by experts for the TnA were to have been awarded category 2 status.
Following the technical inspections, CAF officials were satisfied with the following:
- Pitch Improvement
- Sitting arrangement
- Crowd control measures
- Security arrangement
The possibility of reaching the group phases will determine whether or not the stadium will be granted Category 3 approval.
Medeama will host DR Congo powerhouse TP Mazembe in Tarkwa on September 4 before travelling to Kinshasha for the second leg in the following week.
