The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the free issuance of Ghana Cards in the Greater Accra Region, beginning Monday, April 7, 2025.
This latest initiative covers the distribution of printed backlog cards and new registrations at all NIA District Offices across the region.
Ghanaians who applied for Ghana Card issuance, replacement, or personal record updates since June 2023 but have not yet received their cards can now collect them from the respective District Offices where they registered. The exercise also invites all eligible citizens aged 15 years and above, who have not yet registered, to do so from April 7 at any NIA District Office in Greater Accra.
The NIA has emphasized that these services are completely free of charge. The Authority is urging the public to report any NIA staff who demand unauthorized fees for card issuance or registration, stressing that such conduct is illegal and will not be tolerated.
However, the NIA clarified that services such as card replacements and personal record updates will continue to attract the statutory fees.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to providing every Ghanaian with a Ghana Card, which serves as a vital national identification tool.
