The Principal Regulatory Officer at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Upper East Region, has warned against the use of pregnancy-preventing drug, ‘Postinor 2’ Postinor 2 with a pink flower label on its pack.
Mr Abel Ndego, the officer in question, was speaking at a three-day Fair organized by the Regional Health Directorate in collaboration with the Northern Sector Action on Awareness Centre (NORSAAC).
The FDA officer pointed out that aside from the drug being unregistered, the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient needed to help prevent pregnancy is not up to the required value.
“We have also undertaken quality product monitoring of this particular product, and we have noticed that the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient that should instigate the ability of the product to prevent pregnancy is not at the required value,” he said.
“And so once you use it, you would not get the needed pharmaceutical implication,” Mr Ndego continued while at the Fair in Bolgatanga.
