A devastating fire broke out at the Kasoa New Market this evening, January 4, 2026, destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
Victims of the outbreak expressed extreme dissatisfaction at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), especially at their response time.
According to the GNFS, the fire swept through significant portions of the market while in combat to bring it under control.
The Kasoa and Weija Fire Stations arrived first at the scene but struggled due to the intensity of the blaze.
Available fire tenders and water pumps from Accra were dispatched to support the operation.
The authorities urged traders and residents to stay clear of the area, as the cause of the outbreak is being investigated.
MP for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Naa Koryoo, arrived soon after learning of the outbreak to assess the extent of damage and how affected constituents could be assisted.
