Ace Nollywood actress, Jumoke George, has revealed that her 14-year absence from the industry was as a result of her unpreparedness to give in to the sexual demands of movie producers for roles.
According to her, she is a morally principled person and wants to get roles out of her qualifications and talents and not from an act of immorality.
The actress disclosed this in a recent media interview where she explained why she had not been seen in any movie for more than a decade.
“My dark complexion was not the only setback I faced in my career. Another reason why I did not get movie roles for like 14 years is my refusal to sleep around. When the directors complained that I was too dark, I would tell them to adjust the lighting in the scene to make me look lighter,” she said.
The actress described how her principles led to rejection from multiple directors who, she explained, attempted to pressure her into inappropriate exchanges.
“You can’t push me to do something I do not want to do. I will glow with this skin till old age, and do not forget, black does not crack,” she added.
Jumoke said she questioned a director about her lack of roles, and she was told that she had been deliberately excluded due to her refusal to compromise her morals.
“I just started crying, and when I got home, I prayed to God to take control,” she stated.
