GFA CONGRESS UPDATES: KURT OKRAKU LAYS DOWN POLICIES

During the 29th ordinary session of Congress held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on July 10, 2023, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, presented a comprehensive set of policies, interventions, and strategies for the various facets of the football ecosystem for the upcoming season and beyond.

These initiatives are outlined in a policy document called “Fixing the fundamentals Part II” and aim to address specific needs within the football ecosystem. Here are some of the key details:
1. Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League Bus Strategy: President Simeon-Okraku discussed a bus strategy that aims to provide transportation solutions for clubs participating in the Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League.

2. Supply of Free Footballs: The President highlighted the provision of free footballs to clubs competing in the Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League. This initiative aims to support the clubs and enhance their training and match experiences.

3. Administrative Pitfalls: Identified administrative challenges within the football ecosystem will be addressed as part of the overall strategy. The goal is to streamline administrative processes, improve governance, and enhance the overall functioning of football administration in the country.
4. Coaching: Specific interventions and initiatives will be implemented to enhance coaching standards and development in Ghana.
5. Catch Them Young Refereeing Policy: President Simeon-Okraku mentioned the implementation of the “Catch Them Young” policy for refereeing. This initiative aims to identify and groom young referees, providing them with opportunities for development and progression within the referee pathway.
6. Interventions for Regional Football Associations: The President emphasized the importance of supporting and strengthening the Regional Football Associations (RFAs). Specific interventions and strategies will be implemented to enhance the functioning and development of the RFAs across Ghana.
7. Investment in Juvenile Football: Continuing to invest in juvenile football is a key aspect of the policy document. Developing grassroots football and nurturing young talent will be prioritized to ensure a sustainable pipeline of players for the future.
These policies, interventions, and strategies presented by President Simeon-Okraku reflect the Ghana Football Association’s commitment to improving and developing all aspects of football in the country, from professional leagues to grassroots initiatives.
