FIFA Launches First Talent Academy in Africa, Expands Mauritania Stadium

Date:

FIFA has inaugurated its first-ever Talent Academy in Africa, located in Nouakchott, Mauritania, as part of efforts to nurture young footballers and enhance the sport’s development.

The academy, situated at the Mauritania Football Federation (FFRIM) headquarters, highlights the country’s growing football status under FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), spearheaded by Arsène Wenger.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the initiative as a “huge moment” for young players, while Wenger emphasized the academy’s role in providing top-tier training and education. With 24 FIFA academies already established worldwide, the goal is to expand to 75 by 2027.

FFRIM President Ahmed Yahya called the launch a “historic moment,” reflecting FIFA’s confidence in Mauritania’s football development.

In addition, FIFA has laid the foundation for the expansion of Cheikha Boidiya Stadium, increasing its capacity from 8,000 to 16,000 seats through a $2.9 million FIFA Forward-funded project. The initiative aims to improve football infrastructure and inspire future generations.

FIFA’s global development program, FIFA Forward, has invested billions into football infrastructure, training, and competitions, reinforcing its commitment to making football truly global.
