The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission [GTEC] has warned the University of Ghana of sanctions if its directives are not complied with by January 12, 2026.
News began to circulate of a 25% increase in the 2025-26 academic year fees, which the university has attributed to third-party charges.
The third-party charges were imposed by student leadership groups, according to the university.
In a letter dated January 5, 2026, the Director-General of GTEC, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, has directed the university to reverse all fee increments and suspend the collection of new ones.
Other charges, such as the 75th Anniversary dues and development levy, have also been ordered to be suspended by GTEC.
Any increase in the fees should’ve gone through parliament approval.
