Former world boxing champion Amir Khan has praised Sharaf and Shahid Mahama, sons of former President John Mahama, for their pivotal role in staging the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event in Accra.
The event, held last Friday, featured a headline clash for the WBC Africa title between American Andrew Tabiti and Ghana’s Jacob Dickson. It was jointly organised by Khan’s AK Promotions and Legacy Rise Sports, the promotional outfit owned by the Mahama brothers.
Khan credited Sharaf and Shahid for highlighting Ghana’s potential as a hub for international boxing, describing their initiative as bold and visionary.
“Many promoters overlook Ghana,” Khan stated. “The spotlight these days is on Saudi Arabia and other big venues, but Sharaf and Shahid reached out and encouraged us to take a chance on Accra. They’ve been outstanding partners.”
He added that the event marks a significant milestone in expanding boxing’s reach into new territories.
“It’s a fresh and exciting market. I wanted to be part of something groundbreaking, and thanks to the President’s sons, we’ve set the stage for more,” Khan said.
