Ghana has been thrown into a state of mourning after the death of popular politician, founder and flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor, at age 72.
Fondly remembered by her famous slang, “ny3 nunu,” Akua Donkor passed on at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also known as Ridge Hospital, on Monday, October 29, 2024.
Her demise comes as a shock to the Ghanaian political landscape, especially the Ghana Freedom Party, with just 39 days left.
According to her 2020 running mate, Ernest Frimpong Manso, she suffered from a respiratory disease, which was first diagnosed at the Nsawam Hospital.
Akua Donkor’s 2024 elections running mate, Roman Father, privately known as Kwabena Agyeman Appiah, has disclosed he will be taking over as the party’s presidential candidate.
Known to be very dedicated to farming and women, she entered the political frame in 2012 when she ran as an independent candidate.
