Akosua Agyapong, a legendary highlife musician, has evoked curses on the leaders of the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) for operating without a license.
According to her, the organization has lost the legal mandate to collect and distribute royalties on behalf of musicians.
Speaking exclusively in a Zoom interview with the Max Morning Show on Wednesday, the “kɔkɔɔkɔ” hitmaker explained that GHAMRO lost the collection rights in 2022 and had to stop operating illegally.
She noted that due to the corruption bedevilling the organization, the office of the Attorney General refused to renew its license untill it put the necessary structures in place to ensure musicians enjoyed their sweat and hard work.
Akosua Agyapong observed that leaders of GHAMRO could not sit to restructure the organization and work in the interest of musicians after their license elapsed, but they were quick to collect musicians’ money in order to enjoy at the expense of the rightful owners.
“God will deal with them for operating without a license and taking our money without us gaining what is due to us,” she cursed.
Akosua Agyapong further warned the leaders of GHAMRO to stop collecting her money from media owners, DJs,restaurants, drinking bars and hotel operators as they had lost that right to collect her money and that of other musicians.
“I have told media houses, DJs and all those who are using my songs for commercial purposes not to pay a dime to GHAMRO because they are not operating with licence,” she added.
