Renowned psychologist Sylvester Kwabena Sackiteh has charged women who are in abusive marriages to think about their mental health.
According to him, the brain is structured in a degenerative manner, and once it loses its volume, it will take God’s intervention before it can be restored to its normal state.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Novella Chat show in Accra on Sunday, Sackiteh warned couples not to compromise on things, which would cause their brains to dysfunction.
”At any point you realise that the marriage you’re in is fighting against your mental health, you need to take a U-turn because mental health is such a way that when you lose it, it’s very difficult to bring it back to its normal state. It’s degenerative; it is like a ball descending from steps. Once your brain loses its structure, it is difficult to bring it back to its original state,” he explained.
Sackiteh therefore charged couples in an abusive relationship to seek help and break away if the abuse could affect their state of mind.
