The Chief Executive Officer of Blakk ID, Berima Kenneth Kobina Mensah, says the country’s educational system should encourage students to embrace fashion at a younger age.
According to him, people did not understand the industry value chain to embrace it due to low interest.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max TV on Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, Berima stated that the industry could employ lots of creatives, ranging from texture designers, designers, makers, stylists, illustrators, fashion stylist,embroiderers,costume designers, estylists, embroiderers, costumeseamstresses or tailors and marketers, if the country’s educational system put necessary measures in place.
”We can only get there with our educational system if we make people aware that fashion is key because clothing forms part of the basic necessities in life- food, clothing and shelter.
“I will even choose fashion first over other jobs. Who can live without wearing cloth? In every activity in this world, you need a dress or costume. So from the unset, people must understand that fashion is a good job.
“When they understand it from childhood, the person will be deliberate about what he or she wants to do.Teachers who serve as models should also encourage the students to embrace it,” he said.
Berima maintained that the industry was lucrative and needed more hands on deck to make the fashion industry excel.
