Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Her Excellency Sabah Zita Benson, has sounded alarm bells regarding rotten activities at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
Travelling overseas to study under a scholarship is an enviable opportunity every single Ghanaian dreams of.
Deserving and needy but brilliant applicants, if successful in their application process, are granted a scholarship by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
However, certain questionable activities that took place during the tenure of the previous government have certainly affected new applicants.
These activities, according to H.E. Zita Benson, have led to debts, which the High Commission began paying since assuming office in 2025.
She disclosed some instances in an interview with Dr Ren at the High Commission in the UK, where stipends were paid to not only the beneficiaries but also their families as well.
“We were paying airfare and monthly stipends for whole families, including spouses and children, because one person was coming to study for an MBA… the rot that happened under the former registrar, I cringed reading these documents.”
