Inter Miami lost at home by a 3-2 scoreline to Club León in their final group phase game to agonisingly crash out of the leagues cup competition.
This poor result followed their previous 2-1 defeat in their second group game to CF Monterrey.
In a game that Inter Miami had to win in order to secure qualification to the next round of the competition, they failed to deliver the required results on the night.
Captain Lionel Messi returned to join the team ahead of the game after he went to Rosario to mourn the death of his late father.
He played the entire second half of the game but failed to inspire his team to clinch the needed results.
Inter Miami led twice on the night through striker Pinter and Yannick Bright, but Club León fought back to stun the home team by scoring the winner on the stroke of full-time through Daniel Arcila’s brilliant finish.
That result ended Inter Miami’s League Cup campaign and secured qualification for Club León to the next round of the competition.
