2026 WAFCON: Black Queens record commanding win

Date:

Ghana’s fearless Black Queens kicked off their 2026 WAFCON campaign with a commanding victory.

The Queens took on tournament debutants Cape Verde on Wednesday at the Stade Moulay Rachid.

Doris Boduwaa is steadily cementing a legacy as Ghana’s best-ever forward in women’s football.

She expertly lobbed the ball over the goalie of Cabo Verde for Ghana’s opener after captain Portia Boakye picked up her forward run.

Ghana doubled their lead in the second half when Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira turned the ball into her own net in the 54th minute.

Cape Verde, playing their first-ever match at the continental finals, ended the contest with 10 women after Klaydiana Borges was sent off in stoppage time.

The win sees the Black Queens take hold of the first position in the Group D table, as they look forward to their next game against Cameroon.
