The ‘Red Maria’ of the Northern Regional Police Command, in a combat illicit drug operation, has arrested seventy-seven (77) suspects.

The arrests took place in the Tamale Metropolis and the Savelugu Municipality on Monday, March 23, 2026, around 9:30 p.m.

An arrest of a suspect at Lamashegu and another at the Aboabo market area led to the alleged supplier at NOBISCO, though no incriminating items were found at his residence.

Upon receiving more intelligence, the ‘Red Maria’ nabbed 74 other suspects in Savelugu in the biggest bust of the operation.

Seven motorbikes, one Toyota Camry vehicle, suspected quantities of Indian hemp, and ten sachets of Tramadol were retrieved in the raid at Savelugu.

The suspects are currently being screened, and those charged would appear before the court.
