Former manager speaks after court demands him to pay Black Sherif GH₵15,000

Date:

After court ordered him to pay GH₵15,000 over a writ which was dismissed, Shadrach Owusu Agyei, the former manager of Black Sherif, has expressed the reason he failed to nullify the contract his artist signed with American label Empire in 2022.

He said Black Sherif, after signing the contract, came to him to show him the documents, which he claimed did not make sense after he read what his artist would stand to gain from the deal.

Owusu Agyei stated that the deal promised $30,000, yet only $15,000 had been paid to Black Sherif.

The remaining amount, according to the agreement, was to be used for production.

To him, that arrangement made little sense, especially considering the length of the contract, which he said was for 15 years.

What made the situation even more confusing was that Black Sherif had once warned against working with the same people involved,” he stated.

Owusu Agyei stated that Black Sherif enlisted his help to cancel the contract on the basis that he, as the manager, was not aware when the artist signed the deal.

“I was about to do it to nullify the contract, but I realised that it is of no use since Black Sherif went behind me to sign the deal, and once he realised it was a bad deal, he sought my help to nullify it, so I didn’t do it,” he said.

Owusu Adjei stated that Black Sherif had initially told him they should never work with the foreign distributor, stressing that they ignored him when he needed support; instead, the label focused on Yaw Tog and wondered what compelled him to sign the contract without his consent.
