Veteran gospel music icon Osomafo Yaw Sarpong has passed on.
The legendary musician was found dead in his sleep on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Yaw Sarpong had been unwell in recent years, suffering a stroke and dementia until his demise.
His death comes 44 days after that of his loyal backing vocalist and partner, Maame Tiwaa.
Born to a member of parliament under the Dr Kwame Nkrumah government, he relocated to Akyease with his mother following his father’s death in 1966.
He departed for Liberia, where he established his band Yaw Sarpong and Asumafo after working as a taxi driver in Accra between 1984 and 1986.
Yaw Sarpong will go down in history as one of the great messengers of the Gospel of Christ.
