Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has laid into a Super Eagles star for their loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ikpeba was unhappy with former Arsenal player Alex Iwobi for a lacklustre pass which led to the DRC’s equaliser.
Nigeria had taken the lead in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers playoffs final after just four minutes through Frank Onyeka.
The DRC restored parity after Wilfred Ndidi failed to clear the ball during a quick counter-attack as a result of a bad Iwobi pass.
“So casual on the ball and then look at him just jogging back. You know, you were expecting him to sprint back if you could recover but he didn’t do that. That is what we say in this part of the world, ‘you dey play as if you dey for your parlour.
When you have a player who’s not ready to run, Iwobi is not ready to suffer. That is what will be. It has just showed in that situation,” Ikepba said on Super Sport.
The DRC went on to knock out the Super Eagles by 4-3 on penalties to progress to an inter continental final playoff.Ikpeba was unhappy with former Arsenal player Alex Iwobi for a lacklustre pass which led to the DRC’s equaliser.
