11 Children Die in Volta Lake Boat Disaster

Date:

A fatal boat disaster on October 11, 2025, claimed the lives of 15 people.

This tragic incident occurred on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi, the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) confirmed.

The GMA reported that the boat had been grossly overloaded.

Out of the 15 dead, 11 are children between the ages of 2 and 14 years.

The remaining four are adults — three females and one male between the ages of 18 and 64.

The GMA has described the disaster as a “critical and unacceptable breach of safety standards” and is committed to full transparency.

An investigative team has been commissioned to establish the precise cause of the incidents, identify any violations of safety regulations, and ensure that all responsible parties are held fully accountable under the law.
