Gary Neville Calls for Action Against Racist Abuse of Antoine Semenyo

Date:

Former England and Manchester United captain Gary Neville has called for the racial abuser of Antoine Semenyo to face the full consequence.

Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo was a victim of racial abuse in the 2025/26 Premier League opener when his club, Bournemouth, took on Liverpool away at Anfield.

The match was halted in the 29th minute when Semenyo reported to referee Anthony Taylor about racist remarks made by a lame Liverpool fan as he was about to take a throw-in.

Following consultations with the 4th official, match commissioner, and managers of both clubs, the fan was ejected from the stadium by stewards and security personnel on duty.

“It’s a criminal offence. This is obviously proven to be found guilty, and I think there should be a serious consequence for that individual,” Neville said in a post-match discussion for Sky Sports Premier League.

Neville highlighted how this action would have an undesirable effect on the family, social, and work life of the fan, who could receive a lifetime ban from Liverpool.

The game eventually ended 4-2 for the home team, with Semenyo bagging all two goals for his club.
