The Baba Yara Stadium is in a race against time to be ready for the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers to be played by Asante Kotoko.
Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), inspected the stadium on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
He was in the company of other officials of the NSA after the appointment of Nana Gyaamah Darkwah to head the Kumasi headquarters of the country’s sports custodians.
Green grass specialist Frank Boahin and experts from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have been engaged to address the stadium’s unplayable pitch.
“If the pitch can be resuscitated in the next few weeks, it is possible, but I cannot sit here and guarantee that. That is why we’ve brought in experts with years of experience so we give the right information, not speculation,” he said.
The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 18 after the draw on August 12, with Kotoko having formally requested the use of the stadium.
Mr. Ampofo Ankrah expressed confidence of getting the stadium ready for inspection by CAF officials ahead of the qualifiers.
