HomeGhanaOFFICIAL: GPL Club Licensing Decisions on Match Venue Security

OFFICIAL: GPL Club Licensing Decisions on Match Venue Security

Date:

The Club Licensing Department of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has completed a re-inspection of 15 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match venues.

The exercise took place from Tuesday, February 25, 2025, to Thursday, February 27, 2025, as part of efforts to ensure compliance with the GFA Stadium Directives and the Enhanced Safety and Security Protocols 2025.

The inspection focused on the technical and security aspects of the venues, assessing compliance with the minimum requirements for Category 3 matches. Key areas of evaluation included the condition of the playing field, availability of inner perimeter fencing or barrier systems, minimum seating capacity, state of the dressing rooms, presence of a Safe Zone Area, external walling, and the security of entry and exit points.

Following the inspections, five venues were fully approved for the ongoing league. These include TNA Stadium, Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Dun’s Park in Bibiani, Nsekyire Sports Arena, and Kpando Sports Stadium. Additionally, five other venues received conditional approval, pending minor repairs and general cleaning.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium were flagged for major security concerns. Clubs using these facilities must implement the required security measures as directed by the GFA before hosting any official matches. An on-site inspection will be conducted to assess compliance with the recommended solutions.

Three venues—Wenchi Sports Stadium, AAK II Ampain, and Golden City Park—were found to have both technical and security deficiencies. These venues require extensive repairs and renovations before they can be reconsidered for GPL matches. A re-inspection will be conducted once the necessary improvements are completed.
