Ashanti Regional Minister Meets Asante Kotoko Management at Club Secretariat

Date:

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, held a crucial meeting with the management of Asante Kotoko SC at the club’s secretariat in Kumasi.

This high-profile engagement underscores the government’s interest in the affairs of one of Ghana’s most prestigious football clubs and explores areas of collaboration to further the development of sports in the Ashanti Region.

The visit, which brought together key officials of Asante Kotoko, was aimed at fostering a stronger partnership between the club and the regional government. The Minister emphasized the need for more structured support for the club, acknowledging its historical significance and its role in promoting the Ashanti Region on the global sports stage.

“Asante Kotoko is not just a football club; it is a heritage, a symbol of pride for the people of Ashanti. We must ensure that the club gets the needed support to excel both locally and internationally,” Dr. Frank Amoakohene stated.

A major talking point in the meeting was infrastructure development. The Minister assured Kotoko’s management of the regional government’s commitment to improving sporting facilities, including support for the renovation of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and other necessary training grounds.

Kotoko’s IMC Chairman Nana Apinkra, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit and highlighted the club’s vision of becoming a continental football powerhouse. “Our focus is on professionalizing and modernizing Kotoko to meet international standards. We welcome any support from the government to achieve this,” he said.

The meeting also addressed financial sustainability, with discussions on how the government can facilitate sponsorship deals and investment opportunities for the club. The Minister hinted at potential tax incentives and business collaborations to attract more investors into the club.

Additionally, youth development was a focal point. Dr. Frank Amoakohene reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots football and encouraged Kotoko to continue scouting and nurturing young talents. “We must ensure that the next generation of football stars emerges from our region,” he added.

The discussions concluded with an agreement to establish a task force that will work on implementing key resolutions from the meeting. Both parties expressed optimism that this partnership will lead to the growth of football in the Ashanti Region and elevate Asante Kotoko’s status internationally.

The meeting reflects a renewed commitment to sports development and sets the stage for a brighter future for Asante Kotoko SC, its fans, and Ghanaian football as a whole.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene’s visit to Asante Kotoko’s secretariat is a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the club and the government. It also highlights the shared vision of making Kumasi a hub for football excellence, with Asante Kotoko at the forefront of this transformation.
