CAF EXCO ELECTIONS: Kurt Okraku Cleared to Contest

Date:

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has been declared eligible to contest for a position on the Executive Council (EXCO) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This follows the CAF Review Committee’s approval, confirming that Mr. Okraku passed the integrity and eligibility test. He met all ethical requirements set by CAF, including adherence to CAF and FIFA’s ethics codes, a clean criminal record, financial integrity, absence of doping or match-fixing allegations, and extensive experience in football governance.

The CAF EXCO Elective Congress is scheduled for March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt.

Mr. Okraku’s eligibility allows him to run for the EXCO position, which holds significant influence over the governance and strategic direction of African football. His election would bolster Ghana’s presence and contribution to continental football administration.

This milestone comes four years after Mr. Okraku withdrew his candidacy for the CAF EXCO elections in 2021 to support Djibrilla Hima Hamidou, the former WAFU Zone B President. Now, representing the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), Mr. Okraku is running unopposed for the position.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will also run unopposed for a second term during the Congress, which is expected to shape the future of African football.

This development signifies a pivotal step in Mr. Okraku’s leadership journey and could place him at the heart of decision-making for football across the continent.
