The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Swedish national, Kim Björkegren, as the new head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana.
Björkegren, 43, will be replacing Swiss coach Nora Hauptle, who left for the Copper Queens of Zambia at the end of her contract with the GFA.
During his time at American National Women’s Soccer League side, Louisville FC, from late 2021 to October 2023, he managed 11-16-17 (W-L-D).
According to the Ghana Football Association, Kim favors a more possessive and attacking style of football through teamwork and hard work, though an American news outlet, ‘The Equalizer,’ described his Louisville team lacking consistency.
Aside from his successes with Apollon Ladies and Linkopings FC, respectively, he also had stints in China, and the Philippines, and worked with the Finnish Women’s National Team as a Scout and Analyst.
Björkegren will have to prepare the Black Queens for the 13th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
He will be assisted by Coaches Charles Sampson and Anita Wiredu, Nassamu Yakubu (Goalkeepers Coach) and Enoch Jordan Daitey (Athletic Coach).
