Special voting recorded high turnout – EC Chairperson

Date:

The Electoral Commission of Ghana, through its chairperson, Jean Mensa, has revealed the special voting recorded a high voter turnout.

Special voting, by the definition of the Electoral Commission, “is a facility provided by law to allow registered voters who will not be able to present themselves at their polling stations due to the role they play in the elections, to vote on a date before the rest of the electorate vote on the date set for the election.”

She disclosed this in the final press conference ahead of the general elections to be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

According to Jean Mensah, with even the high voter turnout, 83 percent was recorded to be the lowest on the day of the special voting.

She urged journalists and media practitioners to report facts, while announcing accreditation has been provided to close to 10,000 media personnel, and 20,000 observers.

“Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully,” she said.

18,774,159 registered voters, representing 55 percent of the total population will be expected to participate in the polls.
