#BSAFCON2024:Debutants Mauritania stun reigning champions Senegal

Date:

It has been a dream start for the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations debutants, Mauritania after they stunned African champions and tournament favourites, Senegal in a Group B opener on Sunday, 20 October in Hurghada, Egypt.

A strong and confident start saw the debutants send shockwaves across the continent with a dominant display over the four-time CAF Beach Soccer AFCON champions in a match that concluded 5 – 2 in favour of Mauritania.

Senegal, who are aiming at extending their title record to five came into the tie as strong favourite over the debutants who showed no sense of fear in their approach to the champions.

The Mauritanians will certainly not be pushovers in this tournament as evidently seen in their qualifiers that saw them overcome Nigeria enroute to the Egypt finals.

The results sees Mauritania temporarily summit the top of Group B while last edition’s hosts, Mozambique take on Malawi in the last group match of the day.

CAF Beach Soccer AFCON Egypt 2024 action continues on Monday with the return of Group A fixtures.

Morocco will be up against Ghana in the first match before the hosts hope to continue on their good start when they take on Tanzania.

All matches are live on CAF’s Official YouTube channel, CAF TV – with exclusive content available on CAF’s digital platforms which can be followed on #BSAFCON2024
