SOURCES: Ghana FA Eyes Togo for 2025 AFCON Qualifier Against Sudan

Date:

Ghana is looking at options, including neighboring Togo, to host its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan after CAF declared the country’s major stadiums unfit for international play.

Following CAF’s directive, venues like Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, and Cape Coast Stadium are closed for maintenance.

With the match approaching in just a month and no available stadium, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is seriously considering Togo’s national stadium, which meets CAF’s standards.

There are also talks about possibly hosting the game in Ivory Coast, a country with strong ties to Ghana, especially after their support for the Black Stars during the 2024 AFCON.

Ghana hopes to resolve the stadium issues soon, but playing the crucial home match abroad remains a strong possibility.

This upcoming match against Sudan is vital, as Ghana has only one point from two games, having lost to Angola and drawn with Niger. The Black Stars must secure back-to-back wins to move from third place into a qualifying position.
