Henry Asante Twum, director of communications for the Ghana Football Association, disclosed in an interview on Max FM that a formal meeting was convened to discuss future courses of action with the Black Stars technical team.
This is contrary to viral reports that the meeting was held to part ways with Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
The former Brighton coach came under immense pressure following Ghana’s abysmal performances in the last two international friendlies against Mexico and the United States of America.
“The meeting was to speak with each other, look into each other’s faces, and speak truth to each other about the general concerns of Ghanaians regarding the team’s poor performances.”
“So as a technical team, they must make sure things improve immediately, especially when we have these two crucial matches coming up [World Cup Qualifiers] within this week.”
“In all, the meeting was to find out from the technical team if all is well and their challenges, so that the leadership can come to their aid.”
On Friday, November 17, 2023, the Black Stars will play Madagascar in a FIFA World Cup qualifier for 2026 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, under the stewardship of Chris Hughton.
