Rapper Edem has revealed that many members of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) apply for positions in the union just to easily acquire visas and to fulfill their personal ambitions.
According to him, personal interest has gradually become the order of the day among the members, which in turn has destroyed the core purpose of the union.
Edem, who revealed this during an interview with the media, said most MUSIGA members have the aim of traveling, so acquiring the position makes it easier for them to fulfill that aim.
“Most people take MUSIGA memberships because they want to travel abroad. You get the card, so when you get to the embassy, you will not talk much. Aside from that, there is nothing you can do,” he said.
That, he noted, has defeated the core purpose of the union, which is to represent the interests of musicians and build a resourceful music industry.
Edem, therefore, expressed the need for the union to shift attention from their personal interests to the interests of the musicians in order to make the industry grow in the right direction.
