The World Cup-winning midfielder from Argentina, Papu Gomez, claimed unintentionally drinking his son’s cough medicine for his positive test and denied using performance-enhancing drugs.
Gomez was given a two-year suspension by Fifa on Friday after testing positive for a prohibited drug.
In a sample obtained during Gomez’s game against Sevilla in October 2022, terbutaline was discovered.
“I have never used, nor ever had any intention using doping methods,” said Monza’s Gomez on Instagram on Sunday.
Gomez added, “It should be noted that therapeutic use of terbutaline is allowed for professional athletes and that in no way does it improve sporting performance.”
