GFA CONGRESS UPDATES: 50K to clubs for the creation of young teams

Date:

Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has promised Ghanaian clubs a sizeable sum of GHC 50,000 to encourage the formation of young teams in an effort to revitalize youth football in Ghana.

The declaration was made in reaction to the national youth teams’ diminishing performance, which has been blamed on the nation’s underinvestment in youth development.

Okraku announced that each Ghana Premier League club will receive financial support of GHC 50,000 to build their own junior teams during his speech at the GFA 29th Ordinary Congress held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Clubs will also be qualified for an extra GHC 25,000 if two of their youth players feature in more than 15 games.

Okraku stressed the value of developing new talent inside Ghanaian clubs and pledged his support for their initiatives. He said, “Each Ghana Premier League club will receive GHC 50,000 in support for the establishment of a youth squad. Additionally, clubs would receive 25,000 if two of their young athletes appeared in more than 15 games.
