Aguero apologises after shocking penalty miss in loss to Chelsea

Date:

Sergio Aguero has apologised after his awful penalty miss in Manchester City’s 2-1 loss at home to Chelsea.

The striker attempted a panenka with City 1-0 up, which was comfortably saved by Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.

The miss angered his manager Pep Guardiola and shocked his teammates and fans who felt certain Aguero would equal Wayne Rooney’s record for the most goals for a single club in the Premier League.

It turned out the miss was even more costly as Chelsea came back in fine style after the break, with goals from Hakim Ziyech and Marcos Alonso giving the Blues a brilliant win.

The loss meant City failed to secure the Premier League title and will now hope that Manchester United slip up against Aston Villa or Liverpool.

Aguero, who was substituted in the 70th minute, looked remorseful as the final whistle blew.

He took to Twitter to apologise to his teammates and fans of Man City for the miss.

“I would like to apologise to my teammates, staff and supporters for missing the penalty. It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility.”

Aguero is in the final year of his contract and will leave the club at the end of the season.
